What is lorem ipsum?

Lorem ipsum is scrambled, meaningless Latin-like text that has been the printing and design industry's standard placeholder since the 1500s. Because the words carry no meaning, they let viewers focus on layout, typography and spacing instead of reading the content.

The classic passage is derived from a work by Cicero, with words altered enough to be nonsensical. Designers reach for it whenever real copy isn't ready yet.

When to use placeholder text

Use lorem ipsum to fill wireframes, website templates, slide decks and print layouts so stakeholders judge the design rather than half-finished copy. It's also handy for testing how a component behaves with varying amounts of text.

Yes. Switch the unit to words or sentences and set the amount you need.
Can it output HTML?
Yes. Enable “Wrap in <p> tags” to get HTML with each paragraph in its own <p> element, ready to paste into a template. The file downloads as .html in that mode.
Does it always start with "Lorem ipsum"?
Only if you want it to. There's a toggle to begin with the classic "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…" line or to start with fully randomized words.
Is the text the same every time?
No. The words are randomized on each generation, so you get fresh placeholder text every click.
